What Happened
The fuel system control module in your vehicle is the brain of the fuel system, making sure everything runs smoothly. However, in some 2009 models, a weak seal can let water seep in, potentially causing problems.
Risk if Unfixed
If water gets into the fuel system control module, it could cause your engine to stall, not start, or act erratically. This increases the risk of a crash, especially if you're on the road.
Free Fix
Your authorized dealer will replace the faulty fuel system control module with a new one, free of charge. You'll get a notice with the repair details, and you should contact them to schedule the fix as soon as possible.

GM IS RECALLING 27,188 MY 2009 CADILLAC ESCALADE, ESCALADE HYBRID, ESCALADE ESV, AND ESCALADE EXT; CHEVROLET AVALANCHE, SUBURBAN, TAHOE, TAHOE HYBRID, AND COLORADO; AND GMC YUKON, YUKON HYBRID, YUKON XL, AND CANYON VEHICLES. THE FUEL SYSTEM CONTROL MODULES MAY HAVE A CONDITION IN WHICH AN ADHESIVE SEPARATION OF THE ROOM TEMPERATURE VULCANIZING (RTV) SEAL BETWEEN THE SEAL AND THE HOUSING MAY ALLOW WATER TO SEEP INTO THE MODULE.

What Happened
The front passenger air bag in your vehicle is a safety device that deploys in a crash to protect you. In certain 2009-2013 models, the inflator in this air bag could fail and rupture, sending sharp metal fragments towards the driver or other passengers.

If the heated wiper fluid system overheats, it could ignite and cause a fire in the area. This is a serious safety risk, especially when driving.
Free Fix

A RECALL WAS IMPLEMENTED IN 2008 TO ADD A FUSE TO THE CONTROL CIRCUIT HARNESS TO ADDRESS THE POTENTIAL CONSEQUENCES OF A PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD (PCB) ELECTRICAL SHORT. HOWEVER, THERE HAVE BEEN NEW REPORTS OF THERMAL INCIDENTS ON HWFS MODULES AFTER THIS IMPROVEMENT WAS INSTALLED. THESE INCIDENTS RESULTED FROM A NEW FAILURE MODE ATTRIBUTED TO THE DEVICE'S THERMAL PROTECTION FEATURE. THE SIGNIFICANCE VARIES FROM MINOR DISTORTION TO CONSIDERABLE MELTING OF THE PLASTIC AROUND THE HWFS FLUID CHAMBER.
