Risk if Unfixed
If the control unit overheats, it could catch fire, which could put you and others at risk of serious injury.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will disconnect the reverse gear control unit from the electrical system as an emergency fix, and then replace it with a new one, all at no cost to you. They'll send you a letter with the details, and you can reach out to them at 1-800-525-7417 to schedule the repair.
