Component
POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION:INTERNAL:SHAFT:INPUT
Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The gearbox input shaft in your R1250GS, R1250GS Adventure, or R1250RTP is a crucial part that connects your engine to your gears. It's like a strong, spinning rod that helps you shift gears smoothly. In some cases, this shaft can become damaged or break, especially under heavy engine load or when riding aggressively.
Risk if Unfixed
If the shaft breaks or gets damaged, your rear wheel could become blocked, making it harder to control your motorcycle. This increases the risk of a crash, which could put you and others in danger.
Free Fix
Your authorized BMW dealer will update the software controlling your engine, which will help prevent the shaft from getting damaged. This update is completely free, and you should schedule it as soon as you receive the recall notice.
