What Happened
The fuel pump in your motorcycle is the part that sends gasoline from the tank to your engine. In certain 2011-2014 models, this pump and a secondary pump in other models can crack and start leaking fuel while you're riding.
Risk if Unfixed
If fuel leaks out while you're on the road and there's an ignition source nearby, it could cause a fire. This is a serious risk that could put you in harm's way.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty fuel pump free of charge. You should schedule the repair as soon as possible to ensure your safety on the road.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2011-2014 S 1000 RR/R/ HP4, R 1200 GS/GS Adventure/R/RT, K 1300 S, K 1600 GT/GTL/GTL Exclusive and 2014 R nine T motorcycles. The fuel pump, and auxiliary fuel pump in certain models, may crack and leak fuel during vehicle operation.

The fuel pump flange in your motorcycle is a crucial part that helps keep gasoline from spilling out. In some BMW motorcycles from 2005 to 2012, this flange can crack and develop a leak.
Risk if Unfixed
If the flange cracks and leaks fuel, it could catch fire if there's an ignition source nearby, like a spark or a hot exhaust pipe. This could cause a serious fire.
