What Happened
The receiver audio module in your vehicle is a computer that helps keep you safe with audible warnings. In certain BMW models, this computer might not remind you to buckle up by making the usual beeping sound when you get in the car.
Risk if Unfixed
If the warning sound doesn't work, you might not hear it when you need to buckle up. This could increase the risk of injury if you're in a crash without wearing your seatbelt.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the receiver audio module software to make sure the seatbelt warning sound works properly — and it's free. You should schedule the repair when you receive the recall notice in the mail.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2019-2022 330i, 330i xDrive, M340i, 2022 430i Coupe, 2021-2022 430i, M440i Convertible, and 2020-2022 228i xDrive Gran Coupe vehicles. The receiver audio module control unit software may fail to properly generate audible seat belt warnings to the driver to fasten their seat belt. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
