What Happened
The seat frame in your vehicle is the part that connects the seat to the car's structure. Unfortunately, in certain 2019-2021 models, it might not have been attached correctly.
Risk if Unfixed
If you're in a crash, an improperly attached seat frame could fail to keep you safe inside the vehicle, increasing the risk of serious injury.
Free Fix
Your local BMW dealer will replace the faulty seat frame and back rest with new, properly attached parts, at no cost to you. You can expect a notification letter, and you should schedule the repair as soon as possible.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2019-2021 330i, 330i xDrive, M340i xDrive, 2020-2021 X3 sDrive30i, X3 xDrive30i, X3 M40i, X3M, 2021 X3 xDrive30e, X4 xDrive30i, and X4M vehicles. The seat frame may not have been welded properly to the seat rails.

An improperly welded seat frame may not properly restrain the occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Original — Remedy
Dealers will replace the seat frame and back rest, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 22, 2023. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
