Component
AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The airbag system in your i3 is designed to protect you in a severe crash. However, in certain models from 2014-2018, the system might not deploy correctly for unbuckled drivers, leaving them at risk of neck injury.
Risk if Unfixed
If you're driving your i3 without wearing a seatbelt and get into a frontal crash, you could be more likely to suffer a neck injury. This is because the airbag might not deploy properly to help protect you.
Free Fix
BMW will update the airbag control unit software in your i3 at no cost to you. Your dealer will make this update to ensure your airbag system works as designed to keep you safe in case of a crash.
