Component
POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFT
Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The driveshaft is the long rod that connects your rear wheels to the rest of your vehicle. In certain BMW models, this connection can get damaged, causing problems.
Risk if Unfixed
If the driveshaft connection fails, your vehicle could lose power to the rear wheels while you're driving, making it harder to control. If you park on an incline and don't engage the parking brake, your vehicle could roll away, posing a risk of a crash or injury.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will inspect the driveshaft connection, apply a strong adhesive to fix it, or replace the driveshaft and rear axle differential if needed — all at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you receive the recall notice in the mail.
