What Happened
The airbag inflator in your 3 Series is the component that helps deploy the airbag in a crash. In some affected models, the new inflator made for the steering wheel could fail during deployment.
Risk if Unfixed
If the inflator explodes, it could send sharp metal fragments flying towards you or your passengers, causing serious injury or even death.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will inspect and replace the airbag module if necessary, at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice, which was mailed August 30, 2024.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2006-2011 3 Series Sedan (324i, 325i, 325xi, 328i, 328xi, 330i, 330xi, 335i, 335xi), 2006-2012 3 Series Sportswagon (325xi, 328i, 328xi), and 2009-2011 3 Series Sedan (335d) vehicles. The original steering wheel may have been replaced with a sport or M-sport steering wheel equipped with an inflator that can explode during deployment.

What Happened
Your vehicle has a front airbag system that might pose a risk. The airbag inflator in your car contains a type of explosive that can degrade over time, especially in humid or hot conditions. This can cause the airbag to explode in a crash, sending sharp metal fragments flying.
Risk if Unfixed
If the airbag explodes, the sharp fragments could hit you or your passengers, causing serious injury or even death. This is a very real and serious risk.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty airbag inflator with a safer one, free of charge. This repair is completely free to you, and you should schedule it as soon as you receive the recall notice.

What Happened
The wiring and electrical connectors in your vehicle control the air flow for the heating and air conditioning system. In certain 2006-2011 BMW models, this wiring and electrical connectors can get too hot.
Risk if Unfixed
If the wiring overheats, the electrical connectors could melt and cause a fire, even if you're not driving the car. This is a serious risk, especially if it happens when your vehicle is parked or unattended.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty wiring and electrical connectors with new ones, at no cost to you. You'll receive a notice when the repair is available, and you should schedule it as soon as possible.

The positive battery cable connector in your vehicle connects the battery to the fuse box. Over time, it can wear out and break, causing a loss of power.

Original — What Happened
BMW is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 1-Series coupes and convertibles manufactured December 2007 through September 2011; and 2007-2011 3-Series coupes and convertibles manufactured March 2007 through October 2011; 2007-2011 3-Series sedans manufactured March 2007 through October 2011; 2007-2011 3-Series sports wagons manufactured March 2007 through June 2011; and 2009-2011 Z4 vehicles manufactured March 2009 through June 2011. In February 2013, BMW recalled 504,545 vehicles. In July 2013, BMW informed the agency that it was adding 1-Series, 3-Series, and Z4 vehicles, representing an additional 12,094 vehicles. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 516,791. The connector for the positive battery cable connector and the corresponding terminal on the fuse box may degrade over time. Over time, the high current flow and heat from electrical resistance may lead to a breakage of the connection, and a loss of electrical power to the vehicle.

If there is a loss of electrical power to the vehicle, the vehicle may unexpectedly stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
