Component
POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINT
Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The constant-velocity joint is like a flexible elbow that connects your transmission to your wheels. In your 2013-2016 328d xDrive, this joint could become damaged and stop working.
Risk if Unfixed
If the joint fails, you could lose power to the rear wheels while driving, making it harder to control your vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash. When parked, you might also experience an unintended rollaway if the parking brake isn't engaged, which could lead to a crash or injury.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty joint and inspect the transfer case, fixing it if needed – all for free. You'll receive a notification from BMW, and you should schedule the repair as soon as possible.
