What Happened
The air bag control unit in your vehicle is a critical safety system that deploys the front air bags in a crash. However, if the battery is weak, it could cause the unit to malfunction and disable the passenger side front air bag.
Risk if Unfixed
If you're in a front-end crash and the passenger side air bag doesn't deploy, you could get hurt. This is a serious safety issue.
Free Fix
Your Audi dealer will update the air bag control module software for free, which will ensure the passenger side air bag deploys properly in an emergency. You should schedule this repair as soon as possible.

Original — What Happened
ON CERTAIN VEHICLES WHERE A WEAK BATTERY EXISTS, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT A LOW VOLTAGE CONDITION COULD CAUSE THE AIR BAG CONTROL UNIT TO IMPROPERLY SET A FAULT CODE. IF THIS OCCURS, THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONTAL AIR BAG WILL BECOME DEACTIVATED. HOWEVER, BOTH THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AS WELL AS THE 'PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF' TELLTALE IN THE CENTER OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WILL ILLUMINATE AND PROVIDE VISUAL WARNING TO THE DRIVER.

What Happened
Your vehicle has a wiring harness that's crucial for the passenger side frontal airbag. In some cases, this wiring could fail and turn the airbag off, even when it's supposed to be on.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, you'll get a warning light on your dashboard and a telltale light that says 'Passenger Airbag Off'. But if you're in a frontal crash, the passenger airbag won't deploy – leaving you without protection.
Free Fix
Your Audi dealer will fix the wiring harness for free. They'll modify it to ensure your airbag works properly, and you shouldn't have to pay a thing.
