What Happened
The locking cable in your Audi A8's automatic transmission is a critical part that keeps the gearshift from moving when the car is in park. Over time, it can shift out of position and allow the gearshift to move even if the key is turned off.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, your car could roll away without warning, which could cause an accident.
Free Fix
Your Audi dealer will add a small adjusting piece to secure the locking cable in place, preventing it from moving out of position. This repair is free, and you should schedule it as soon as possible.

VOLKSWAGEN IS RECALLING 13,900 MY 1996-2003 AUDI A8 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 5-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE LOCKING CABLE MAY MOVE OUT OF POSITION OVER TIME. WITH THE LOCKING CABLE OUT OF POSITION, THE SHIFTER CAN BE MOVED OUT OF THE "PARK" POSITION EVEN IF THE IGNITION KEY IS NOT IN THE IGNITION LOCK.

DEALERS WILL MODIFY THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION LOCKING CABLE BY INSTALLING AN ADJUSTING PIECE THAT WILL SECURE THE LOCKING CABLE IN PLACE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT AUDI AT 1-800-822-2834.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:FILLER PIPE AND CAP

What Happened
The fuel filler pipe and cap on your vehicle are part of a system that detects fuel vapors. The filler neck has a small cover that may not seal correctly, allowing vapors to escape.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, the system will alert you through a warning light on your instrument panel, but it won't cause a direct safety risk.
Free Fix
Your authorized Audi dealer will replace the faulty fuel filler neck and expansion tank assembly, and this repair is free of charge.

SHOULD THIS HAPPEN, THE FUEL TANK PRESSURE WILL BE REDUCED, WHICH WILL ACTIVATE THE LEAK DETECTION SYSTEM AND ALERT THE DRIVER OF A SYSTEM'S FAULT INDICATED BY AN INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHT.
