STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM
What Happened
The electric power steering system in your vehicle uses a motor to assist with steering. In certain models sold in specific states, the bolts that hold the motor in place can corrode due to road salt and other contaminants.
Risk if Unfixed
If the bolts corrode, the motor could detach from the gear housing, making it harder to steer your vehicle, especially at low speeds. This could increase the risk of a crash if you can't control your vehicle.
Free Fix
Your Ford dealer will replace the corroded bolts and apply a protective coating to prevent further corrosion. If any bolts are broken or missing, they'll install a new steering gear for you, all at no cost.
