What Happened
The child protection lock on your rear doors is a safety feature that helps keep kids from opening the doors from the inside. But if you slam the door shut with the lock on, there's a chance the lock could accidentally toggle off.
Risk if Unfixed
If the lock disengages, you might think the doors are secure, but in reality, a child could still open the door from the inside while you're driving. This could cause them to fall out and get hurt.
Free Fix
Your Toyota dealer will shorten the lock lever to prevent this from happening, and the repair is free. You'll receive a notification letter on or after May 7, 2004.
