Critical #01V254001 Plain English
Component

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:VACUUM

Manufacturer
MITSUBISHI AMERICA
What Happened
The vacuum booster in your vehicle helps assist your brakes when you press the pedal. It's connected to a small air tank that's supposed to provide extra power. Unfortunately, some of these tanks might have been made incorrectly.
Risk if Unfixed
If the air tank leaks, you might hear a strange noise when you press the brakes, and over time, it could make your brake assist slower to respond. This could lead to a situation where you have to press the brake pedal harder to stop your vehicle, which could increase the chance of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Mitsubishi dealer will replace the faulty air tank with a new, improved one at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as possible and contact them if you haven't received the free fix within a reasonable time.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES. THE ACCUMULATOR THAT IS INSTALLED ON THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE BOOSTER MAY HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY MANUFACTURED. OVER A PERIOD OF TIME, THIS COULD RESULT IN LEAKAGE OF THE PRESSURIZED NITROGEN GAS FROM INSIDE THE ACCUMULATOR.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
THE LOSS OF THIS GAS PRESSURE COULD RESULT IN AN ABNORMAL NOISE FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DASH PANEL WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, AND POSSIBLY A DELAYED FIRST TIME BRAKE BOOST ASSIST AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN PARKED FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSTALL AN IMPROVED ACCUMULATOR. OWNER NOTIFICATION MAILING BEGAN OCTOBER 1, 2001. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT MITSUBISHI AT 1-800-222-0037.

VISIBILITY:REARVIEW MIRRORS/DEVICES:EXTERIOR

Manufacturer
MITSUBISHI AMERICA
What Happened
The rearview mirror on the passenger side of your vehicle is designed to give you a clear view behind your car. Unfortunately, some models have a mirror that doesn't meet safety standards.
Risk if Unfixed
This could limit your view of the road behind you, making it harder to see pedestrians, bicycles, or other vehicles, and increasing the risk of a collision.
Free Fix
Your dealer will install a new, compliant rearview mirror that meets safety standards, free of charge. This repair is necessary to ensure your safety on the road.

EQUIPMENT:OTHER:LABELS

Manufacturer
MITSUBISHI CARIBBEAN
What Happened

Risk if Unfixed
This means the labels might not effectively inform you of the airbag locations in the event of an accident. This could lead to confusion and potentially put you at risk.
Free Fix
You'll receive a letter with instructions and a picture of the correct label, and your Mitsubishi dealer will give you new airbag alert labels for the sun visors at no extra cost. You should contact Mitsubishi Caribbean (1-787-251-8715) when you receive the notification letter.
