What Happened
The Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) is a computer that helps control your brakes. In some 2010-2019 Kia models, it can get an electrical short, like a spark that can ignite a fire in your engine compartment.
Risk if Unfixed
If the HECU fails and sparks a fire while you're parked or driving, you could be at risk of serious injury from the fire.
Free Fix
Your Kia dealer will replace the faulty HECU fuse for free, so schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice. Meanwhile, park your vehicle outside and away from buildings to keep everyone safe.

Original — What Happened
Kia America, Inc. (Kia) is recalling certain 2010-2019 Borrego, 2014-2016 Cadenza, 2010-2013 Forte, Forte Koup, Sportage, 2015-2018 K900, 2011-2015 Optima, 2011-2013 Optima Hybrid, Soul, 2012-2017 Rio, 2011-2014 Sorento, and 2010-2011 Rondo vehicles. The Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) may experience an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving.

An engine compartment fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
Original — Remedy
Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the HECU fuse, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed November 14, 2023. Owner notification letters were mailed March 29, 2024 through June 18, 2024. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC284.

If the HECU fails, it could spark a fire in the engine compartment while you're parked or driving. This could put you and others at risk of injury from the flames.

Your Kia dealer will replace the faulty HECU module with a new one, including a new fuse, at no cost to you. For now, it's best to park your vehicle away from buildings and other flammable structures until the repair is done.

What Happened
The multi-function light switch in your K900 controls your headlights, turn signals, and other exterior lights. In some 2015-2016 models, this switch can malfunction, causing your headlights to flicker or turn off while driving.
Risk if Unfixed
If the switch fails, your headlights might not shine as brightly, making it harder to see the road. This could increase the risk of a crash, especially at night or in low-visibility conditions.
Free Fix
Your Kia dealer will replace the faulty switch with a new one at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as possible once you receive the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 K900 vehicles manufactured December 18, 2013 to January 11, 2016 and equipped with LED headlights. In the affected vehicles, when using the multi-function light switch in "AUTO" mode, electrical resistance may build in the switch and result in the headlights flickering or turning off when driving.

Loss of headlight illumination may reduce visibility and increase the risk of a crash.
