The vehicles are equipped with passenger frontal air bag inflators assembled as a recall remedy part or replacement service part, that may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.

Due to a manufacturing error, in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver frontal air bag, these inflators may explode.

What Happened
Your vehicle's air bag system has a wire harness under the carpet on the driver's side floorboard that may be damaged by road salt from your shoes. This could lead to a breakdown in the system that detects passengers and their positions.
Risk if Unfixed
If the air bag system doesn't work properly, there's a risk that a front passenger air bag could deploy in a crash, which could increase the chance of injury to small or out-of-position occupants.
