What Happened
The passenger airbag in your GMC Canyon has a computer chip that helps it deploy safely in a crash. But in some 2024-2026 AT4X AEV models, this chip might malfunction and cause the airbag to deploy more forcefully than intended.
Risk if Unfixed
If the airbag deploys incorrectly, you're at a higher risk of injury in a crash. This is because an overly aggressive airbag deployment can cause serious harm, especially to your face and chest.
Free Fix
Your GMC dealer will update the airbag computer chip with the correct software, at no cost to you. This is a free repair that you should schedule as soon as you receive the recall notice.
