What Happened
The steering column in your Chevrolet Express or GMC Savana is the long rod that connects your steering wheel to your front wheels. There's a problem with the gear selector feedback on this column, causing your car to think you're in a different gear than you actually are.
Risk if Unfixed
If you don't notice, you could accidentally shift into gear and move unexpectedly. This could increase the risk of a crash, especially if you're not expecting it.
Free Fix
Your dealer will replace the faulty steering column assembly, and the repair is completely free. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice, and don't start driving until it's done.

Original — What Happened
General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2026 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vehicles. The gear shifter may provide inaccurate gear selection feedback to the driver due to an incorrectly manufactured steering column assembly.

Inaccurate gear selection may result in unexpected vehicle movement, increasing the risk of a crash.
Original — Remedy
Until the remedy is performed, owners are advised to visually verify the shift position indicator each time a gear is selected and always use the parking brake when the vehicle is parked. Dealers will replace the transmission control on the steering column, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 13, 2026.
