EXTERIOR LIGHTING Safety Recalls

Critical #04V527000 Plain English
Component

EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS

Manufacturer
GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
What Happened
The tail lamp and brake light bulbs in your vehicle are held in place by a socket. In some cases, the vibration and heat from driving can cause the bulb to loosen, making it flicker and eventually stop working.
Risk if Unfixed
If the brake light goes out, other drivers won't see that you're slowing down or stopping, increasing the risk of a crash. A faulty turn signal light can also make it harder for others to understand your intentions, making a collision more likely.
Free Fix
Your dealer will inspect and replace the tail lamp/stop lamp assemblies if necessary, at no cost to you. You should contact your dealer to schedule the repair as soon as possible.

Original — What Happened
ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, VIBRATION AND HEAT MAY CAUSE THE TAIL LAMP/STOP LAMP BULB TO LOOSEN IN ITS SOCKET. IF THIS OCCURS, THE BULB MAY FLICKER AND EVENTUALLY BECOME INOPERATIVE.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
AN INOPERATIVE BRAKE LAMP WILL NOT CONVEY THE DRIVER'S INTENTION OF STOPPING TO DRIVERS IN FOLLOWING VEHICLES, AND AN INOPERATIVE REAR TURN SIGNAL LAMP WILL NOT CONVEY THE DRIVER'S INTENTION TO TURN TO DRIVERS IN FOLLOWING VEHICLES. BOTH OF THESE FAILURES CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE TAIL LAMP/STOP LAMP ASSEMBLIES, AND IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THEM. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 22, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438, OLDSMOBILE AT 1-800-630-6537, BUICK AT 1-866-608-8080, OR GMC AT 1-866-996-9463.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING:TURN SIGNAL

Manufacturer
GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
What Happened
The turn signal module in your vehicle controls the front and rear turn lights. In some cases, the module might cause these lights to flash erratically, making it hard to signal your intentions to turn or change lanes.
Risk if Unfixed
If the turn signal lights flash incorrectly, you might struggle to communicate your intentions to other drivers, which could increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your dealer will replace the turn signal module with a new one designed to work more reliably, free of charge. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
ON CERTAIN TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE DRIVER WISHING TO SIGNAL A TURN BY MOVING THE DIRECTIONAL SIGNAL LEVER, (UP OR DOWN) MAY CAUSE THE FRONT MARKER/TURN LIGHTS AND REAR TURN LIGHTS TO FLASH IN A MANNER SIMILAR TO HAZARD WARNING, RATHER THAN FLASHING ON THE DESIRED SIDE ONLY.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
THE DRIVER MAY NOT BE ABLE TO CLEARLY SIGNAL THEIR INTENTIONS TO TURN, CHANGE TRAVEL LANES, OR POTENTIALLY WARN OTHERS OF AN IMPAIRED VEHICLE OPERATING CONDITION INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SUSPECT FLASHER MODULES WITH A NEW FLASHER MODULE DESIGNED WITH SEALED RELAYS AND MORE DURABLE CONTACT MATERIAL INSIDE OF THE RELAYS FREE OF CHARGE.
