DORMAN IS RECALLING 979 STEERING KNUCKLES, DORMAN P/NOS. 697-902 AND 697-903, SOLD UNDER DORMAN'S "OE SOLUTIONS<SUP>TM</SUP>" BRAND NAME, AND NAPA P/NOS. 7-8502 AND 7-8503 WHICH WERE SOLD FOR REPLACEMENT USE ON THE VARIOUS VEHICLES LISTED ABOVE. A POTENTIAL MATERIAL OR DESIGN DEFECT COULD RESULT IN THE STEERING KNUCKLE BREAKING IN THE HUB AREA.

What Happened
The airbag system in your vehicle has a special sensor to detect the weight of a passenger in the front seat. If you've had your seat reupholstered with a leather cover, this sensor might not work correctly.
Risk if Unfixed
If the sensor fails, the airbag on the passenger side could be turned off when it should be on, or turned on when it should be off. If this happens during a crash, it could cause a passenger's injuries to be more severe.
Free Fix
Unfortunately, there's no fix for the seat cover, so GM will repurchase your vehicle. You should contact GM at 1-877-477-1022 to start the process, which will begin on November 6, 2006.

BECAUSE A REPLACEMENT LEATHER SEAT COVER THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM IS NOT AVAILABLE, GENERAL MOTORS (GM) WILL REPURCHASE THESE VEHICLES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TERMS STATED IN GM'S LETTER TO OWNERS. What Happened
The headlamp driver module in your vehicle is a computer that controls your headlights and daytime running lights. In some 2006-2009 models, this module can overheat and fail, making your headlights and daytime running lights not work.
Risk if Unfixed
If your headlights don't come on, you'll have reduced visibility while driving at night, and other drivers may have trouble seeing your vehicle. This can increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your dealership will replace the faulty headlamp driver module with a new one, free of charge. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2006-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2007 Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT, GMC Envoy XL, 2006-2008 Isuzu Ascender, and Saab 9-7x vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the headlamp driver module (HDM) may overheat and fail, causing the headlamps and daytime running lights to not illuminate.

Headlamps that do not illuminate reduce the driver's ability to see the roadway and reduce the vehicle's visibility to oncoming vehicles, both of which increase the risk of a vehicle crash.

What Happened
The ignition switch in your vehicle is the part that keeps the engine running when you turn the key. In some 2005-2014 models, the weight on the key ring could cause the switch to turn off the engine unexpectedly.
Risk if Unfixed
If the ignition switch turns off the engine without warning, your airbags might not deploy in a crash, and you could be at risk of serious injury. You'll also lose power steering and power brakes, making it harder to control your vehicle.
Free Fix
Your dealer will add a second key ring and a protective cover or insert to your ignition key, all free of charge. This will help prevent the ignition switch from turning off unexpectedly.

Original — What Happened
This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne, 2000-2005 Cadillac DeVille, 2006-2011 Cadillac DTS, 2006-2014 Chevrolet Impala, and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the weight on the key ring and road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.

If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, a key knocked out of the run position will cause loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 23, 2014.
