AIR BAGS:FRONTAL

Manufacturer
General Motors LLC
What Happened
Your vehicle's front air bag system, which includes the air bags and seat belt pretensioners, relies on a computer module called the SDM. This module might not have received a crucial software update, which could leave you vulnerable in a crash.
Risk if Unfixed
If there's a crash that needs air bag deployment, they might not work as intended. This means you and your passenger could be at higher risk of serious injury, especially to your head, neck, and chest.
Free Fix
Your dealer will update the SDM software, and if you've already had an air bag deployment, they'll replace the module entirely – both repairs are free of charge. You should schedule an appointment as soon as you receive the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.
Original — Remedy
GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 17287.

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL

Manufacturer
General Motors LLC
What Happened
The air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) in your vehicle is a computer that helps the airbags deploy in a crash. In certain situations, this module's software might cause a test that prevents the airbags and seat belt pretensioners from working in an actual crash.
Risk if Unfixed
If your airbags and seat belt pretensioners don't deploy in a crash, you could be at greater risk of injury or harm, especially for the driver and front passenger.
Free Fix
Your dealer will update the SDM software, or replace it if you've already had an airbag deploy. This repair is free, and you should schedule it as soon as possible.

EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL

Manufacturer
General Motors LLC
What Happened
The engine block heater cord in your vehicle is the part that keeps your engine warm in cold weather. In some 2012-2014 models, the insulation on this cord can wear out, exposing the wires inside.
Risk if Unfixed
If the cord wears out, the wires could get damaged, and you could get a shock if you touch the cord while it's plugged in. This could cause serious injury.
Free Fix
Your dealer will replace the damaged cord with a new, cold-weather-rated one for free. This repair is on the house, so schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice.

SEATS

Manufacturer

Risk if Unfixed
If the seat doesn't stay in place, you or your passengers could get hurt in a serious accident.
Free Fix
Your dealer will inspect the bracket and fix or replace the lower seat track if it's not properly welded, all at no cost to you.
