What Happened
The catalytic converter is a crucial part in your X7 M60i or XM that helps clean the air coming out of your exhaust. In some 2023 models, the fasteners that connect it to the exhaust system might not have been tightened properly.
Risk if Unfixed
If these fasteners aren't secure, it could cause a fire in the engine area, which could lead to serious damage and even pose a risk to you and others on the road.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will inspect and tighten the fasteners, and replace the gasket between the exhaust system and catalytic converter at no cost to you. You should schedule this repair as soon as you receive the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2023 X7 M60i and XM vehicles. The fasteners that connect the exhaust system and the catalytic converter may not have been tightened correctly.

A loose connection between the exhaust system and catalytic converter increases the risk of a fire.
Original — Remedy
Dealers will replace the gasket between the exhaust system and the catalytic converter, and tighten the fasteners, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 22, 2023. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
