What Happened
The ignition lock in your S 1000 RR is a critical part that helps your motorcycle start and run safely. Over time, the vibrations from the bike can cause a small internal component to wear out and fail.
Risk if Unfixed
If the ignition lock fails, your instrument display could go dark, your rear lights might not work, and your ABS could stop working. This could also cause your engine to stall while you're riding, making it harder to control your bike and increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
BMW will repair or replace the faulty ignition lock once the remedy is available. In the meantime, you'll get a letter with more information, and you can contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 for assistance. The repair will be done at no cost to you.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2024 S 1000 RR US, and 2020-2026 S 1000 RR motorcycles. The vibration of the motorcycle may cause an internal component of the ignition lock to fail, which can cause the instrument display, rear lighting, and other systems such as ABS to fail, or cause an engine stall while riding.

The remedy is currently under development. Letters informing owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed September 14, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning September 14, 2026.
