What Happened
The ignition lock in your S 1000 RR motorcycle is crucial for keeping your bike running safely. It's an internal component that can be damaged if your motorcycle vibrates too much while you're riding.
Risk if Unfixed
If the ignition lock fails, your engine could stall, or important systems like your instrument display, rear lights, or anti-lock brakes might stop working. This could make it hard to control your bike and increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
For now, you'll get a letter explaining the issue, and once a fix is available, you'll get another letter with instructions. You can contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 for more information. The fix will be done at no cost to you when it's ready.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2024 S 1000 RR US, and 2020-2026 S 1000 RR motorcycles. The vibration of the motorcycle may cause an internal component of the ignition lock to fail, which can cause the instrument display, rear lighting, and other systems such as ABS to fail, or cause an engine stall while riding.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
An engine stall or failure of electrical systems such as the instrument display or ABS, increases the risk of a crash.
Original — Remedy
The remedy is currently under development. Letters informing owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed September 14, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning September 14, 2026.

COMMUNICATION: AUTO CRASH NOTIFICATION

Your vehicle's emergency call system, which helps send your location in case of an accident, may have been turned off due to a software glitch.
Risk if Unfixed
If you're in an accident, emergency responders might not know where you are, which could put you at risk of injury.

We'll update the software for free, either remotely or at the dealership, so you can feel safe knowing help will arrive quickly in case of an emergency.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2025 F 900 GS, F 800 GS, R 1300 GS Adventure, R 1300 GS, S 1000 RR, S 1000 R, and K 1600 GT vehicles equipped with the optional emergency call system. The emergency call system (eCall) may have been deactivated due to a software programming error.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
In an emergency, first responders may not receive notification of the crash or emergency location, increasing the risk of injury to riders.
Original — Remedy
The electronic control unit software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed September 12, 2025. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
