What Happened
The gearbox input shaft in your motorcycle is a critical part that helps connect the engine to the transmission. In some 2019-2023 R1250GS, R1250GS Adventure, and R1250RTP models, this shaft could become damaged or break.
Risk if Unfixed
If the input shaft fails, your rear wheel could lock up, making it hard to steer and control your motorcycle. This could lead to a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the engine control unit software, which is a free repair. You should contact them as soon as possible to schedule the update and stay safe on the road.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2019-2023 R1250GS, R1250GS Adventure, and R1250RTP motorcycles. In certain engine operating and riding conditions, the gearbox input shaft may become damaged or break, possibly resulting in a blocked rear wheel.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
A damaged gearbox input shaft or a blocked rear wheel can increase the risk of a crash.
Original — Remedy
Dealers will update the engine control unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 22, 2023. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

What Happened
The pivot pin in your motorcycle is a small metal rod that connects the final drive to the swing arm, allowing your bike to pivot smoothly.
Risk if Unfixed
If the pivot pin is damaged, the connection between the final drive and swing arm could come loose, making it harder to control your motorcycle and increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your authorized BMW dealer will replace the faulty pivot pin for free, so schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2020 R1250GS and R1250RT motorcycles. The pivot pin that connects the final drive to the swing arm may be damaged, causing the connection between the final drive and swing arm to loosen.
