What Happened
The fuel pump flange in your motorcycle is a metal plate that helps hold the fuel pump in place. Over time, it can crack and leak fuel.
Risk if Unfixed
If the fuel pump flange cracks and leaks, the risk of a fire increases. This is especially serious if you're near an ignition source, like a spark from your exhaust or an open flame.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will inspect and fix the problem – either by reinforcing the flange or replacing the pump, free of charge. You'll get a notice in the mail with instructions on how to schedule the repair.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2005-2011 model year R-model motorcycles, model year 2005-2012 K-model motorcycles, model year 2010-2011 S 1000 model motorcycles, and model year 2006-2010 HP2 motorcycles. In the affected motorcycles, the fuel pump flange (and the auxiliary fuel pump flange if equipped) could develop cracks and leak fuel.
