Component

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE

Manufacturer
BMW OF NORTH AMERICA, LLC
What Happened
The engine oil pump in your M5, M6 Coupe, or M6 Convertible is a critical component that helps lubricate your engine. Unfortunately, a manufacturing mistake could cause the pump's driveshaft to separate from the rotor.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, your engine could suddenly lose oil pressure, causing it to stall and potentially fail. This could increase the risk of a crash if you're driving at the time.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty oil pump with a new one, free of charge. You'll be notified when it's time for the repair, and it's essential to schedule it as soon as possible to ensure your safety on the road.

Original — What Happened
BMW is recalling certain model year 2013 M5, M6 Coupe, and M6 Convertible vehicles, manufactured from July 19, 2012, through September 11, 2012. Due to a manufacturing process error, the tolerance between the engine oil pump's drive shaft and the pump's rotor was not within specification. As a result, the pump's driveshaft could separate from the rotor.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
Separation of the pump's driveshaft from the rotor could lead to a sudden loss of oil pressure causing the possibility of complete engine failure, resulting in an engine stall-like condition, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Original — Remedy
BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the oil pump, free of charge. The safety recall began on November 30, 2012. Owners may contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The rear reflex reflectors on your vehicle are designed to make your car visible to other drivers, especially in low-light conditions. However, some 2013 5 Series models might have reflectors that don't reflect light as well as they should.
Risk if Unfixed
If your reflectors aren't working properly, other drivers might not see your vehicle, especially at night or in foggy conditions. This could increase the risk of a collision.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the rear reflex reflectors with new ones, at no charge to you. You'll be notified about the recall, and you should schedule the repair as soon as possible.
