What Happened
The steering damper in your 2024-2025 M 1000 XR or M 1000 R motorcycle is like a shock absorber for your handlebars. It helps keep your bike stable while you're turning. However, the damper in some of these models might have a loose valve pin inside.
Risk if Unfixed
If the valve pin gets loose, you might feel a sudden increase in resistance when you're steering your motorcycle. This could make it harder to control your bike and increase the chance of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the steering damper with a new one that's designed to stay stable, and it's free. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice, and be sure to contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 if you have any questions or need help with the process.
