What Happened
The seal on your motorcycle's reverse gear control unit is a small rubber or plastic piece that keeps moisture out. In some 2017-2025 K 1600 GT and 2018-2025 Grand America models, this seal can break down, letting water inside the control unit.
Risk if Unfixed
If the control unit overheats, it could catch fire. This is a serious risk that could damage your motorcycle or cause injury.
Free Fix
Your authorized BMW dealer will replace the reverse gear control unit at no charge. You should schedule this repair when you receive the first recall notice, and a second notice will follow with a reminder when the repair is ready.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2017-2025 K 1600 GT, GTL, B and 2018-2025 Grand America vehicles. The seal for the reverse gear control unit may deteriorate and allow moisture inside the control unit, which can result in the unit overheating.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
An overheated reverse gear control unit increases the risk of a fire.
Original — Remedy
Dealers will replace the reverse gear control unit, free of charge. Letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed May 28, 2026. A second letter will be mailed once the remedy is available. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning May 25, 2026.

What Happened
The front spring strut on your motorcycle is like a flexible arm that helps absorb bumps in the road. In some 2024 models, the strut might contain a faulty part that can loosen over time.
Risk if Unfixed
If the strut fails while you're riding, you could lose control of your motorcycle, which increases the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will check the strut's production date and replace it if it's faulty - all at no cost to you. You'll receive a recall notice, and you should schedule the repair as soon as possible.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2024 R 1250RT, K 1600GT, K 1600GTL, and K 1600B motorcycles. The front spring strut may contain an incorrectly manufactured proportional valve that can loosen, and result in strut failure and a loss of stability.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
A loss of stability while riding can increase the risk of a crash.
Original — Remedy
Dealers will inspect the strut production dates and replace the front spring struts as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 29, 2024. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
