Component
LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH
Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The door latches in your vehicle are designed to automatically close and lock when you shut the doors. However, in some 2005-2008 BMW models, a software glitch can cause the doors to appear closed but not actually be locked.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, your doors could open unexpectedly while you're driving, which could lead to an occupant being thrown from the vehicle or increase the risk of injury in a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the door latch system to ensure your doors stay locked as they should, and this repair is completely free. You'll get a notice with instructions on how to schedule the update.
