What Happened
The receiver audio module in your vehicle is the part that makes sure you hear a warning to buckle up. In some 2019-2022 330i, 430i, and M models, this module might not work correctly, so you won't hear the seat belt warning.
Risk if Unfixed
If you don't hear the warning to buckle up, you're more likely to get hurt in a crash. This is because you might not be secured properly in your seat.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the software in your receiver audio module to ensure you hear the seat belt warning. This repair is free, and you should schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2019-2022 330i, 330i xDrive, M340i, 2022 430i Coupe, 2021-2022 430i, M440i Convertible, and 2020-2022 228i xDrive Gran Coupe vehicles. The receiver audio module control unit software may fail to properly generate audible seat belt warnings to the driver to fasten their seat belt. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

What Happened
The Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) in your seat belt is designed to keep you safe by locking the webbing in place in a crash. But in certain vehicles, it might not work as intended, failing to lock the webbing before it's fully retracted.
Risk if Unfixed
If you're in a crash and the retractor doesn't lock the webbing, you could be at risk of serious injury because the seat belt won't keep you secure.
Free Fix
Your dealer will check the seat belt retractor and replace it if it's faulty – at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you receive the recall notice, and it's completely free.

Dealers will inspect the seat belt retractors (including the seat belts) and, if necessary, replace the retractors, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on September 3, 2021. What Happened
The starter motor in your vehicle is the part that helps your engine turn over when you turn the key. In some 2021-2024 models, the starter motor can wear out and overheat, potentially causing a fire.
Risk if Unfixed
If the starter motor overheats, it could catch fire and increase the risk of serious injury, especially if you're not near an exit or escape route.
Free Fix
Your authorized BMW dealer will replace the starter motor with a new one, free of charge. You'll receive a letter when the repair is available, and you can also contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 for more information.

What Happened
The starter assembly relay in your vehicle is a small electrical component that helps your engine turn over when you turn the key. In some 2019-2022 models, this relay can corrode and overheat.
Risk if Unfixed
If the starter relay overheats and short circuits, it could cause a fire, which could spread quickly and be difficult to extinguish.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty starter relay with a new one, at no cost to you. For now, park your vehicle in an open area away from buildings, and schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.

What Happened
The rearview camera in your vehicle is the camera that shows you what's behind your car when you shift into Reverse. In some 2019-2021 BMW models, the camera might not show the entire view, or the screen might not turn on.
Risk if Unfixed
If you rely only on the rearview camera, you might miss seeing something behind your car, which could increase the risk of a crash or injury, especially in tight spaces or when reversing into traffic.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will check the camera software and update it if needed, all at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.
