What Happened
The air bag module in your vehicle is the part that deploys the airbag to protect you in a crash. In certain older 3 Series BMWs, the original air bag module may have been replaced with a potentially faulty one that could explode when it's supposed to deploy.
Risk if Unfixed
If the air bag module explodes, it could send sharp metal fragments flying towards you or your passengers, causing serious injury or even death.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will check the air bag module and replace it if necessary, free of charge. This repair is crucial, and you should schedule it as soon as you receive your recall notice.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2006-2011 3 Series Sedan (324i, 325i, 325xi, 328i, 328xi, 330i, 330xi, 335i, 335xi), 2006-2012 3 Series Sportswagon (325xi, 328i, 328xi), and 2009-2011 3 Series Sedan (335d) vehicles. The original steering wheel may have been replaced with a sport or M-sport steering wheel equipped with an inflator that can explode during deployment.

An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.

What Happened
The driver's side airbag in your vehicle is a safety device that deploys in the event of a crash to protect you. However, in certain BMW models, the inflator that makes the airbag work may fail and explode, causing sharp metal fragments to fly towards you or other passengers.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, you could be seriously hurt or even killed by the sharp metal fragments. This is a life-threatening situation that requires immediate attention.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty airbag inflator for free. This repair is completely free of charge, so you shouldn't delay. Schedule the appointment as soon as you receive the recall notice.

These inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver air bag. On X5 and X6 vehicles, only the inflator will be replaced. All repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began March 11, 2020. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

What Happened
The electrical connection between your car's battery and the fuse box is like a weak link in a circuit. In your 2008-2011 BMW, this connection can wear out and cause power to flicker.
Risk if Unfixed
If the connection fails, your car could lose power while driving, causing it to stall. This increases the risk of a crash, especially if you're on the move.

Your BMW dealer will secure the battery cable connector to prevent this problem, and do it at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2009 328i and 328xi, 2009-2011 335d, 2008-2012 M3 Coupe and M3 Convertible, and 2008-2011 M3 Sedan vehicles. The connection of the positive battery cable at the fuse box terminal may degrade, resulting in an intermittent loss of electrical power.

The wiring and electrical connectors in your vehicle control the heating and air conditioning. In certain 2006-2011 BMW models, this wiring can overheat and fail.

If the wiring overheats, it could catch fire, even if you're not driving. This is a serious risk, especially if your vehicle is left unattended.

Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty wiring and electrical connectors with new ones, at no cost to you. You'll receive a second notice when the repair is ready, and you should schedule it as soon as possible.
