Component
AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The inflator in your airbag is the critical part that makes the airbag deploy. In some affected 2006-2011 3 Series and 2009-2011 335d models, the inflator that came with a sport or M-sport steering wheel might not work properly.
Risk if Unfixed
If the inflator explodes during an airbag deployment, it can send sharp metal fragments flying towards the driver or other passengers, causing serious injury or even death.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will inspect and replace the airbag module if needed, all at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice in the mail.
