What Happened
The PCV valve in your vehicle helps manage the air pressure in your engine. The heater in this valve could fail, causing it to short circuit.
Risk if Unfixed
If the heater fails, the valve could melt and increase the risk of a fire, even when your car is parked and not in use.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty PCV valve heater for free. You'll receive a notification, and you should schedule the repair as soon as possible.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2006 525i, 525xi, 530i, 530xi, 530xi Sports Wagon, 325i, 325xi, 325xi Sports Wagon, 330i, 330xi, Z4 3.0i and Z4 3.0si vehicles. The heater for the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve may short circuit.

An electrical short can cause the parts within the PCV valve to melt, increasing the risk of a fire, even when the vehicle is not in use.
Original — Remedy

What Happened
The airbag module in your BMW is a critical safety device that protects you in a crash. In some 2006-2012 3 Series models, the original airbag inflator was swapped with a different one that can malfunction and cause a serious problem.
Risk if Unfixed
If the inflator explodes during a crash, it could send sharp metal fragments flying towards you and the other passengers. This could lead to severe injuries or even be fatal.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will inspect and replace the faulty airbag module with a safe one, at no cost to you. This repair is a must-do, and you should schedule it as soon as possible after you receive the recall notice.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2006-2011 3 Series Sedan (324i, 325i, 325xi, 328i, 328xi, 330i, 330xi, 335i, 335xi), 2006-2012 3 Series Sportswagon (325xi, 328i, 328xi), and 2009-2011 3 Series Sedan (335d) vehicles. The original steering wheel may have been replaced with a sport or M-sport steering wheel equipped with an inflator that can explode during deployment.

What Happened

The occupant classification system in your vehicle is a sensor mat under the front passenger seat that helps determine if and how the airbag should deploy in a crash. This mat can wear out and develop cracks over time, which could cause it to fail.
Risk if Unfixed
If the system fails during a crash, the front passenger airbag won't deploy, putting you at a higher risk of injury.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the occupant detection mat with a new one, free of charge. When the parts are available, you'll receive a second notification letter with instructions. You'll also get an extended warranty on the mat for added peace of mind.

Additionally, owners of model year 2006-2007 3 Series with standard seats, 5 Series with comfort seats, and Z4 models, will receive an extended warranty on their front passenger seat occupant detection mat.
