Component
AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The inflator in your driver's side airbag is a critical part that helps control the airbag's deployment during a crash. In some 2006-2011 and 2009-2011 3 Series BMWs, the original inflator was swapped out with a different type that could malfunction and explode.
Risk if Unfixed
If this inflator explodes during a crash, it could send sharp metal fragments flying towards you or other passengers, leading to serious injury or even death.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will inspect your airbag module and replace it with a safer one, free of charge. This repair is urgent, so schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice and have your dealer contact you to confirm the repair.
