Component
AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The air bag in your driver's side is the device that deploys during a crash to cushion the impact. In some 2006-2012 3 Series and 2009-2011 335d models, the air bag inflator might have been replaced with one that's not safe.
Risk if Unfixed
If the inflator fails, it could explode during a crash, sending sharp metal fragments into the driver or other passengers, causing serious injury or even death.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will check and replace the air bag module if it's not safe, at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you receive the recall notice.
