Component
AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The airbag inflator in your driver's side airbag is a critical safety component that could fail in a crash. In your 2006-2012 3 Series, the original inflator might have been replaced with a different type that could rupture during deployment.
Risk if Unfixed
If the inflator explodes, sharp metal fragments could hit you or your passengers, causing serious injury or even death. This is a life-threatening risk that requires immediate attention.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will inspect and replace the driver's airbag module with a safe one, at no charge to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you receive the notification letter or contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
