What Happened
The knee bolster under your dashboard has a wire harness that controls your headlights. If you accidentally push against it with your knees, it could short circuit and cause a fire.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, a fire could start in the left dashboard area, which could spread quickly and cause serious damage to your vehicle.
Free Fix
Your Audi dealer will add a protective covering to the knee bolster and check the wiring harness and dashboard protector for any damage. They'll replace them if needed at no cost to you.

Original — What Happened
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, IF A DRIVER'S KNEES PUSH AGAINST THE KNEE BOLSTER (CRASH ELEMENT) LOCATED UNDER THE DASHBOARD, IT CAN CONTACT THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH WIRING HARNESS, AND AN ELECTRICAL SHORT COULD OCCUR.

Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSTALL A PROTECTIVE COVERING ON THE KNEE BOLSTER (CRASH ELEMENT). IN ADDITION, THE WIRING HARNESS AS WELL AS THE FELT PROTECTOR ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD CARRIER WILL BE CHECKED, AND REPLACED IF NECESSARY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 26, 2004.
