EXTERIOR LIGHTING Safety Recalls

Critical #02V119000 Plain English
Component

EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH

Manufacturer
AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.
What Happened
The brake light switch in your vehicle is a crucial part that helps turn on your brake lights when you press the brake pedal. During manufacturing, this switch got some oil on it, which can damage its electrical contacts.
Risk if Unfixed
If the brake light switch fails, your brake lights won't turn on when you press the pedal, making it harder for other drivers to see you're slowing down. This increases the risk of a crash, especially in low-light conditions.
Free Fix
Your authorized Acura dealer will clean up any excess oil and replace the brake light switch for free. You'll get a notice soon, but if you want to schedule the repair, you can contact Acura directly at 1-800-382-2238.
Show original NHTSA language
Original — What Happened
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS, OIL WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY TO PREVENT RUST. THIS OIL CAN LEAK INTO THE BRAKE STOP SWITCH AND CONTAMINATE THE ELECTRICAL CONTACTS.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
EVENTUALLY, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, WHICH INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL CLEAN ANY EXCESS OIL FROM THE PEDAL ASSEMBLY AND REPLACE THE STOP SWITCH. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MAY 16, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT ACURA AT 1-800-382-2238.
