Component
EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
Manufacturer
AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.
What Happened
The brake light switch in your vehicle is a crucial part that helps turn on your brake lights when you press the brake pedal. Unfortunately, during manufacturing, some brake pedal assemblies got a small amount of oil on them, which could leak into the switch and ruin it.
Risk if Unfixed
If the brake light switch gets contaminated with oil, it could fail to turn on your brake lights when you press the pedal. This means other drivers behind you won't see that you're slowing down, increasing the risk of a collision.
Free Fix
Your Acura dealer will clean the brake pedal assembly and replace the brake light switch for free. This repair is part of a recall, and you should schedule it as soon as possible after receiving the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS, OIL WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY TO PREVENT RUST. THIS OIL CAN LEAK INTO THE BRAKE STOP SWITCH AND CONTAMINATE THE ELECTRICAL CONTACTS.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
EVENTUALLY, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, WHICH INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL CLEAN ANY EXCESS OIL FROM THE PEDAL ASSEMBLY AND REPLACE THE STOP SWITCH. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MAY 16, 2002.
