What Happened
The front cross member in your Mazda6 is a metal part that helps keep your vehicle stable and on course. In certain areas with high road salt exposure, this part can corrode over time, especially in vehicles from 2011-2013 models.
Risk if Unfixed
If the cross member corrodes, it could weaken the part that holds the passenger side lower control arm in place. This could cause your vehicle's steering to shift unexpectedly, making it harder to control and increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your Mazda dealer will inspect the cross member and either apply a protective coating to prevent rust, or replace the cross member with a new one that's resistant to corrosion. This repair is completely free, and you'll be notified by Mazda once the repair is available.
