What Happened
The idler pulley bolt in your X5's engine helps keep the belts in place. Over time, it can loosen and break in your 2009-2013 X5 xDrive 35d diesel.
Risk if Unfixed
If the idler pulley bolt breaks, you could lose power steering while driving, which would make it harder to control your vehicle. This could increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will swap out the old idler pulley bolt with a stronger one, free of charge. This repair is on BMW, and you should schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice.
