Component
STEERING:COLUMN
What Happened
The steering column in your Legacy or Outback is the long metal rod that connects the steering wheel to your wheels. In some 2016-2017 models, it wasn't machined correctly, which could cause the wheels to turn randomly when you turn the steering wheel.
Risk if Unfixed
If the steering column fails, you could lose control of your vehicle. This would make it much harder to steer and increase the risk of a serious crash.
Free Fix
Your Subaru dealer will inspect the steering column and replace it if it's faulty, at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as possible, and until then, don't drive your vehicle.
