POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFT
What Happened
Your vehicle's driveshaft is a long rod that connects your transmission to your rear wheels, helping them turn. In your 2015-2016 M3 or M4, the joint that connects these two parts might not have the right amount of lubrication, which could cause it to fail over time.
Risk if Unfixed
If the joint fails while you're driving, the power to your rear wheels could be cut off, causing your vehicle to come to an unexpected stop. This increases the risk of a crash, especially if you're on the road or in heavy traffic.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will inspect your driveshaft and replace it if needed, all at no cost to you. This repair is free, and you should schedule it as soon as you receive the recall notice.
