Component
AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
Manufacturer
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
What Happened
The Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensor in your vehicle helps decide whether the front passenger air bag should deploy in case of an accident. In certain models, this sensor might develop a short circuit, causing the air bag to stay closed when it should open.
Risk if Unfixed
If the front passenger air bag doesn't deploy in a crash, you could be seriously injured, even if you're wearing a seatbelt.
Free Fix
Your authorized Toyota or Lexus dealer will inspect and replace the OCS sensor as needed – free of charge. You'll receive a notification letter with instructions on how to schedule the repair, and you can also contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 for more information.
