Component
LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:TRUNK LID:LATCH
Manufacturer
Hyundai Motor America
What Happened
The trunk latch in your vehicle is a mechanism that lets you open the trunk from the inside. In some 2017-2020 Sonata, 2016-2018 Sonata Hybrid, 2018-2020 Accent, and 2016-2017 Azera models, this latch can get damaged and stop working properly.
Risk if Unfixed
If the latch fails, you or a passenger could get trapped inside the trunk, which is a serious safety risk. This is because you won't be able to open the trunk from the inside, and you may not be able to get out quickly.
Free Fix
Your Hyundai dealer will replace the trunk latch with a new one at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you receive the recall notice, which was mailed on December 4, 2021.
