What Happened
Your vehicle's air brake hoses and fittings may be misrouted, which can cause problems with the trailer brake system.
Risk if Unfixed
If not fixed, you could lose some or all of your trailer brake control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Ford will re-route the air brake lines for free. You should contact Ford at 1-800-248-0186 if you don't hear from them within a reasonable time.

Original — What Happened
CERTAIN MEDIUM DUTY PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH AIR BRAKES THAT INCLUDE THE OPTIONAL TRAILER PACKAGE FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 121, "AIR BRAKE SYSTEMS." THE AIR BRAKE LINES CONNECTED TO THE TRACTOR PROTECTION VALVE ARE MISROUTED.

A LEAK IN THE PRIMARY AIR CIRCUIT OR SECONDARY AIR CIRCUIT COULD RESULT IN A REDUCTION OR LOSS OF THE TRAILER BRAKE EFFECTIVENESS, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL RE-ROUTE THE AIR LINES CONNECTED TO THE TRACTOR PROTECTION VALVE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JANUARY 31, 2002. OWNERS WHO DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-248-0186.

What Happened
Your vehicle's anti-lock braking system (ABS) has a faulty electronic control unit that can cause the brakes to malfunction at low speeds.
Risk if Unfixed
If this problem isn't fixed, you could experience extended braking distances, which could lead to a possible crash.
Free Fix
Your dealership will replace the faulty ABS control unit at no cost to you. They will contact you to schedule a service date, and if you don't hear from them within a reasonable time, you can call Ford at 1-800-392-3673.

Original — What Happened
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS BUILT WITH BENDIX AIR ABS WITH AN EC-17 1030R ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU), THERE HAVE BEEN REPORTS OF UNWANTED ABS ACTIVATION AT LOW SPEEDS CAUSED BY 1) CHAFED ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WIRES ON ROTATING PARTS OR 2) A DAMAGED COMPONENT AT THE WHEEL END THAT GENERATES A CERTAIN TYPE OF ERRATIC SENSOR SIGNAL.

THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE THE ABS ECU TO EXHAUST THE AIR AT THE AIR BRAKE MODULATORS FOR ONE OR MORE OF THE WHEELS. THIS COULD RESULT IN EXTENDED BRAKING DISTANCES AND A POSSIBLE CRASH.
