What Happened
The Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) in your Ford Bronco or Edge is a computer chip that helps your rearview camera work properly. In some 2021-2026 models, this chip can get too hot and shut down, causing the camera image to not show up.
Risk if Unfixed
If the rearview camera doesn't display an image, you'll have a reduced view of what's behind your vehicle, which could increase the risk of a crash when you're reversing.
Free Fix
Your Ford dealer will update the APIM software for free, or you can get the update done remotely through an over-the-air update. You'll get a notification letter with instructions on how to schedule the repair.
