POWER TRAIN Safety Recalls

Critical #07V555000 Plain English
Component

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT

Manufacturer
CHRYSLER LLC
What Happened
Your vehicle's automatic transmission gearshift column may have a faulty interlock system. This means the 'park' position may not be secure when you remove the key, and the key may come out when the gearshift isn't in park.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, your vehicle could roll away without warning, causing a crash.
Free Fix
Dealers will replace the gearshift blocker and bracket assembly for free at no cost to you, starting in January 2008. You can contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 for more information.

Original — What Happened
ON CERTAIN VAN AND PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS, THE IGNITION/PARK SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEM MAY BECOME INOPERATIVE. THIS CAN ALLOW THE SHIFTER TO BE MOVED OUT OF THE "PARK" POSITION WITH THE IGNITION KEY REMOVED (OR IN THE "LOCK" POSITION). THIS CAN ALSO ALLOW THE IGNITION KEY TO BE REMOVED WHEN THE SHIFTER HAS NOT BEEN PLACED IN THE "PARK" POSITION.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
EITHER OF THESE CONDITIONS COULD ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO ROLL AWAY CAUSING A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.
Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE GEARSHIFT BLOCKER AND BRACKET ASSEMBLY FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING JANUARY 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.
